Public Works participates in "Careers on Wheels" Day
Students see demonstration of brush truck
Simpsonville, S.C. — The Simpsonville Public Works Department represented the City of Simpsonville in "Careers on Wheels" Day at a local elementary school.
Public Works Director Andy West, Assistant Director Pete Lupu and Tech Robert Ruvolo brought the Public Works brush truck to Rudolph Gordon Elementary School, which hosted "Careers on Wheels" Day to educate students about important different types of public services and the impressive machinery used for them. West and Lupu talked to the students, who ranged from kindergarten to 4th grade, about Public Works and the truck while Ruvolo demonstrated the truck's capabilities.
West, who became Public Works director in 2019, said the visit was very rewarding.
"The Simpsonville Public Works Department is community oriented, which means our public service does not end with the last stop of trash pickup or final pass of the leaf truck," West said. "Our public service continues with appearances at events like 'Careers on Wheels' Day or National Night Out so that we can connect with the community members whom we serve. When the kids can have fun, that's what it's all about."
The students mostly just enjoy blowing the horn, West said.
