More than 7 pallets of bottled water donated to storm victims
Teacher, students want to give back
Simpsonville, S.C. — Country Fresh of Gray Court donated seven and a half pallets of bottled water on Friday to the donation drive by the City of Simpsonville for those impacted by Hurricane Florence.
Simpsonville firefighters and police officers transferred the water from one tractor trailer to another in the overflow parking lot of Simpsonville First Baptist Church across from the Simpsonville Fire Department.
The City of Simpsonville has been collecting new, unopened non-perishable food, water, hygiene products and toiletries since Wednesday. The drive ends today at 7 p.m.
A message from Bryson Middle School to parents about storm relief efforts by students spurred one mother to contact the school about the seven and a half pallets Country Fresh could donate to the drive by the City, according to Lindsey Arnold, agricultural education teacher.
Arnold, who helped facilitate the donation, said her students have been “very excited to help” those impacted by Hurricane Florence. As she watched the water being transferred from one truck to another with a pallet jack, Arnold said her students understand the necessity of working together to make positive changes in communities around them.
“Our students have an opportunity to make a difference, and they are taking advantage of that opportunity to the best of their abilities,” Arnold said.
The public is encouraged to donate whatever they can to Hurricane Florence victims by dropping off their donations across from the fire department at 403 E. Curtis St. Donations will be taken to Horry County Fire Station No. 7 Saturday.
