Thursday Waste Reduction Tip #2
Clean pizza boxes before recycling
Simpsonville, S.C. — While a little cheese and grease are permissible, pizza and pizza crust cannot be recycled along with pizza boxes.
Given the popularity of pizza, a frequent opportunity for waste reduction is recycling pizza boxes — but the boxes must be cleaned out.
While it may feel good to toss a few pizza boxes into the recycling after a birthday party or Friday-night family dinner, those boxes will end up in the landfill if they still contain bits of pizza or crust. Taking a few seconds to double check the contents of the pizza box that you are about to set aside for recycling will make the difference between more or less trash.
The "Thursday Waste Reduction Tip" is part of a public education campaign by the City of Simpsonville and Simpsonville Public Works Department to promote a comprehensive approach to waste reduction so as to ensure a Simply Sustainable Simpsonville.
