Public Works prioritizing brush pickup, no set schedule for removal

Simpsonville, S.C. — To aid in recovery after Tropical Storm Helene, the Simpsonville Public Works Department has contracted with BellMoore Construction to pick up brush.

While there is no set schedule for brush pickup, Public Works crews are picking up brush as quickly as possible from residential properties with the expectation they will be removing storm debris for the remainder of October and into November as well.

According to the agreement between BellMoore and the City, BellMoore Construction "is to facilitate and coordinate the master cleanup of streets and easements within Simpsonville city limits," which is to include "dumpster drop off, use of machinery to pick up limbs and natural debris and haul off of subsequent material."

Simpsonville Community Relations Specialist Justin Campbell said the agreement between Public Works and BellMoore is about supporting Public Works crews in a process that will take some time.

"Working with BellMoore Construction is going to make a positive impact on storm cleanup and brush pickup in the City of Simpsonville," Campbell said. "We ask for patience and understanding from residents because while BellMoore and Public Works will work as quickly and efficiently as possible, the volume of brush caused by Tropical Storm Helene will take several weeks to remove."

Public Works and BellMoore Construction will pick up brush generated by only residents and not pick up brush generated by third-party contractors and businesses. Residents are asked to place their brush at the edge of the road.

Specifications for brush qualified for pickup are 6 inches or less in diameter and 6 feet or less in length and on a temporary basis brush that is greater than 6 inches in diameter and no greater than 3 feet in length.
