Simpsonville police honor deputy killed in the line of duty
'We are all mourning the loss of a family member'
Simpsonville, S.C. — Simpsonville police honored Sgt. Conley Jumper as his funeral procession passed under the Richardson Street Bridge on Friday.
A Greenville County Sheriff's Office deputy, Sgt. Jumper, 52, was killed in the line of duty on Tuesday after a traffic stop turned violent. A funeral was held for Sgt. Jumper, who served nearly three decades in law enforcement, at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena Friday morning before he was taken to his final resting place in Pomaria in Newberry County.
Simpsonville Police Chief Mike Hanshaw said officers, investigators and other command staff from the Simpsonville Police Department wanted to pay their respects to Sgt. Jumper and show support for his family and friends by saluting his remains.
"Sgt. Conley Jumper lost his life while simply doing his job, which was serving and protecting the public," Chief Hanshaw said. "The death of a deputy or officer in the line of duty reverberates throughout the law enforcement community beyond city limits and county and state lines. When you become an officer, deputy, investigator, corrections officer or any kind of public safety official, you join a family. Today, we are all mourning the loss of a family member but also remembering the deputy, husband, father and honorable man who Sgt. Jumper was."
