Simpsonville PD enhances service through Reserve Officer Program
Reserve officers Chad Cody, Ken Hoyer sworn in
Simpsonville, S.C. — The Simpsonville Police Department is proud to announce its active utilization of the Reserve Officer Program, a voluntary initiative designed to enhance community safety and support the department’s full-time officers. This program enables certified reserve officers to assist in a variety of law enforcement duties, providing additional personnel during peak times, special events, and emergency situations.
The Reserve Officer Program allows qualified individuals to volunteer their time to serve their community, supplementing the department's existing resources. Reserve officers, who undergo extensive training and certification through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, work alongside full-time officers in various capacities, including patrolling neighborhoods, responding to calls for service, and assisting with special assignments.
Chief Michael Hanshaw emphasized the importance of the program: "The Reserve Officer Program strengthens our ability to maintain public safety, particularly during high-demand situations. These volunteers are highly trained and committed to ensuring the well-being of our community, and we are grateful for their dedication."
Reserve officers must meet the same standards as full-time officers in terms of physical fitness, background checks, and training requirements. Upon completion of training, they are sworn in with full law enforcement authority, providing the department with a valuable resource to extend its services without additional financial burden.
The Simpsonville Police would like to recognize and congratulate the two newest members of the program who were sworn in at City Hall on Sept. 9, 2024:
Reserve Officer Kenneth Hoyer
Reserve Officer Chad Cody
