Public can place torn, tattered flags in flag retirement box
Veterans Memorial, Simpsonville, S.C. — Jake DeStefano of Boy Scouts of America Troop 776 was joined by family and city and county officials on Monday to celebrate the successful completion of his Eagle Scout project: the installation of a US Flag Retirement Box at the Simpsonville Veterans Memorial near Main Street.

Simpsonville Mayor Paul Shewmaker, Simpsonville Parks & Recreation Grounds Superintendent Josh Ruppe and Greenville County Councilman Butch Kirven attended the celebration in support of DeStefano's accomplishment. The Simpsonville city officials, Simpsonville City Council and Mayor Shewmaker appreciate DeStefano's selection of the Veterans memorial and park for the site of his project, adding to the culture of patriotism in Simpsonville.
Members of the public can place flags in need of retirement, e.g. torn, tattered, weathered, faded and old flags, into the flag retirement box at the corner of South East Main and Richardson streets; parking is available on Richardson Street on the east side of the railroad tracks. US flags should not be tossed in the garbage or trash or shredded.
DeStefano and Troop 776 will empty the box on a regular basis to have the flags property retired.
