Music series moved to CCNB Amphitheatre

Larger space encourages social distancing

Simpsonville, S.C. — The venue for the Simpsonville Summer Music Series & Food Truck Rodeo has been moved from the Hendricks Pavilion Amphitheatre to the CCNB Amphitheatre at Heritage Park.

Given the limited capacity of a just few hundred people for Hendricks Pavilion, City officials decided to change the venue to the CCNB Amphitheatre, which during normal times has a capacity of almost 15,000. The larger outdoor amphitheatre allows for easier implementation of social distancing measures to help prevent the spread of the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019.

Simpsonville Parks & Recreation staff will outline designated seating areas on the grass six feet apart to promote social distancing. The same measure was successfully implemented for Movies in the Park, a free movie series hosted by Parks & Recreation at CCNB Amphitheatre. More than 600 people followed social distancing guidelines at the showing of Frozen II in June.

Staff successfully implemented the same measure at the showing of Frozen II for Movies in the Park in June, which more than 600 people attended.

The Simpsonville Summer Music Series & Food Truck Rodeo is a joint effort by the City of Simpsonville and Simpsonville Arts Foundation, Inc. to host a free concert with accompanying food trucks every Thursday in August and September. The original schedule for the music series was May-July before the City and SAFI rescheduled all concerts for July-September in response to the current global pandemic.

An increase in COVID-19 cases in Greenville County and the state prompted City officials to cancel concerts for the month of July.

Community Relations Specialist Justin Campbell said City officials have been making decisions about events on a case-by-case basis.

"The City is adapting the event to the current conditions of the virus so that families can enjoy free outdoor entertainment safely," Campbell said. "An uptick in COVID-19 cases in the area warrants moving to a bigger venue where social distancing is possible, allowing for an even larger turnout than what the Hendricks Pavilion Amphitheatre could hold."

The twin male violinist duo Synergy Twins will play a free concert Aug. 13th. Food trucks from Mad Cuban and Tacos & Bla Bla Bla will set up at 6 p.m., and the band will take the stage at 7 p.m.
