Thousands of ‘rowdy’ fans turn out for Hank Williams Jr.

Simpsonville, SC — The sound of traditional country mixed with Southern rock and a little bit of blues echoed from Heritage Park Amphitheater Friday as Hank Williams Jr. performed for thousands of people.

Williams played in Simpsonville for almost two hours after openers Piedmont Boys and Josh Phillips warmed up the crowd. The country legend sang fan favorites “A Country Boy Can Survive,” “My Name is Bocephus” and “All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight.”

Simpsonville community relations specialist Justin Lee Campbell said the concert showed why the Amphitheater is a premiere spot for entertainment in the Upstate.

“The energy of both the crowd and Hank Williams Jr. was impressive the whole two hours,” Campbell said. “Neither the crowd let up in its enthusiasm nor Williams with his larger-than-life personality, not to mention his booming voice and musical skills. The City of Simpsonville and TRZ Management are thrilled with the outcome.”

Williams was the singing voice for Monday Night Football for 22 years and inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007. Williams is the son of the late country music icon Hank Williams.

Rock bands Foreigner and Whitesnake will perform at the Amphitheater July 8. Gates open at 6:55 p.m. Visit www.heritageparkamphitheatre.com for tickets and more information.
