City Council meets for final time in 2023
3 Simpsonville City Council members attend last meeting in their terms
Simpsonville, S.C. - Simpsonville City Council not only held their last meeting of 2023 on Tuesday night; Mayor Paul Shewmaker and the six City Council members met for the last time in the two years that all have served together, and for three Council members, the meeting was altogether their last one.
Councilman Matthew Gooch (Ward I), Councilman Aaron Rupe (Ward II), Councilwoman Jenn Hulehan (Ward III), Mayor Paul Shewmaker, Councilwoman Sherry Roche (Ward IV), Councilman Ken Cummings (Ward V) and Councilman Lou Hutchings (Ward VI) met in Council Chambers at Simpsonville City Hall for the December 2023 business meeting on Dec. 12.
For Cummings, Gooch and Hulehan, the meeting was their last as City Council members as they chose not to run for re-election. Gooch was first elected in 2010, and Cummings and Hulehan were first elected in 2015.
The 2024 Simpsonville City Council will meet Jan. 9 for the first meeting of the year with three new Council members who were elected in November. Mayor Paul Shewmaker will continue to serve as chairman of the meetings after having won re-election last month.
