SCDOT project on SC Highway 417 continues
SC Highway 417 now a 2-lane road
Simpsonville, S.C. – S.C. Highway 417 or East Georgia Road is now a two-lane road after crews resurfaced the formerly four-lane section of the highway with an expected additional layer of resurfacing, traffic signal installation and project completion date in October.
The areas between the white lines of each of the two lanes and the ends of the road are for only emergency vehicles and are not passing lanes for civilian motorists. The next layer of resurfacing will clarify the two-lane only and no passing rules.
Planned and executed by the S.C. Department of Transportation with Greenville County funds, the project is intended to improve safety and traffic flow in the area of East Georgia and Fowler roads and Wagoncreek Drive by reducing four lanes to two lanes and installing a traffic signal. Roadwork is taking place from approximately Bell Drive to Mayfield Road.
